Amazon Aurora DSQL – Distributed Magic or Yet Another Cloud Database
Abstract
At re:Invent 2024 AWS announced a radically new Relational database - DSQL. It is compatible with PostgreSQL from a client’s perspective but a totally new beast from the inside. No more cpu and memory settings! Sounds Serverless. Can it be the preferred AWS Relational database? Is it the perfect record store for every AI solution? Amazon DSQL breaks the well known practice of bringing existing open source database to AWS and providing database management as a service. This time AWS decided to replace the database engine with a solution created entirely by AWS but keep the client layer compatible with PostgreSQL. During the talk we will explain key technologies and solutions behind the product and address some issues and missing features. We will also compare it with existing AWS Relational database offerings and similar offerings by other Cloud providers.
