From a Lambda-Lith to an Event-Driven Architecture – Lessons Learned

Time and room follow soon

Abstract

Are you on a serverless journey on AWS, starting with the popular stack of Amazon ApiGateway, AWS Lambda, and Amazon DynamoDB? While this combination is a simple way to get started, it can quickly become a monolithic and unmaintainable solution. If so, it’s time to discover the power of Event-Driven Architectures (EDAs). In this talk, you will learn about the challenges of the “Lambda-Lith” approach and the benefits of embracing EDAs. We will showcase different solution architectures, discussing their trade-offs and sharing valuable insights gained from real-world experiences.

During this session, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of essential EDA concepts, such as the significance of idempotency and its implementation on AWS. You will dive deep on the practical aspects of constructing serverless EDAs on AWS, harnessing the capabilities of AWS EventBridge and AWS Step Functions. Furthermore, we will showcase how to seamlessly incorporate approval workflows using AWS Step Functions.

Throughout the talk, we will address common pitfalls we have taken so you can avoid them. By the end of this session, you will be equipped with the knowledge and practical guidance needed to harness the full potential of event-driven architectures on AWS, enabling you to build scalable, modular, and maintainable serverless applications.
